Encouraging Kids to Read

Our primary goal at Newspaper Fun is to encourage kids to keep on reading. Children's reading levels, according to many studies, are not where they should be. The responsibility for developing our children's reading, writing and listening skills is shared by all grown-ups who influence a child – parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians and other community members.

This is why, in 2006, we created an online supplement to Newspaper Fun called ReadingClubFun.com. This site, among the first of its kind, was designed to provide newspaper readers and others with useful ideas and tools for encouraging kids to read. The site helps parents and grandparents, teachers, librarians and home-schoolers organize exciting incentives, activities and awards to encourage kids to become more avid readers.

While the reading club is open to anyone, it is particularly focused at communities where Newspaper Fun reaches readers each week through local newspapers. Ann believes that children who develop broad reading tastes – from newspapers to web sites, comic books to recipes – become more inquisitive and informed adults.
